Snapchat against knife crime
Last year, London recorded the highest number of teenage homicides ever, with at least 30 male teenagers aged 14 to 19 being killed.
It’s the young people on our streets and in the schools that know where the knives are, but the risks involved in reporting gang related incidents means a large number of young people are unwilling to speak out.
The Met police will use the social media app Snapchat to offer young people a discreet and anonymous way of telling the police if they’ve seen a knife, without the risk of being found out.
How it works
Working with Snapchat, the Police will open a social account capable of generating an infinite number of anonymous snap codes.
Targeting young people
We’ll reach young people by placing the QR codes in toilet cubicles, inside schools and youth centres, where noone can see you discreetly scan the code on your phone.
